Temecula Creek Inn
Temecula, California
The sprawling countryside of Temecula has become quite the hot
spot. It was bound to happen. The weather is wonderful here.
The main attractions are the wineries, Old Town Temecula and the
golf course of Temecula Creek Inn. I have to admit it was their
highly touted Temet Grill that lured me to stay here. It seemed to
have all the makings for a romantic weekend. Unfortunately,
things didn't go well. Strike one: We arrived at 3:45, 15 minutes
early to their check-in time. Anxious to get to our room we were
in dismay to find out it wasn't ready yet. They took our credit card
information, had us sign the necessary papers, put our
information and room key on a back table behind 30 others and
suggested we busy ourselves at a nearby casino or in their
restaurant lounge. This was upsetting since we didn't come here
to gamble or drink, we just wanted a relaxing evening and this
wasn't a good start. Strike two: It was while waiting in their
lounge at the Temet Grill that we realized that they charged us
$189 for our room, which was $40 more than they quoted over the
phone. After a bit of back and forth discussion our Sunday rate of
$149 was honored. Strike three: After more than an hour in their
lounge and no phone call, we decided to go back to the waiting
area and find out what was taking so long. That's when we were
further perplexed to see they were checking in new arrivals before
calling back those who had already been waiting. This was
unbelievable! But wait there's even more! Finally getting
checked in to our room we thought we'd try and put the past
behind us, sharing a half bottle of wine from their stocked
refrigerator bar. Noticing it was locked we called the front desk for
a key, and stunned to hear them say that they had run out of keys
and that they'd get us one to us as soon as they could. It was one
thing after another here. It's too bad cause the room was nice
enough with a great view of the golf course. The room service
menu was limited with four breakfast selections and a couple of
sandwiches and appetizers, but the restaurant will bring up
anything off of their menu, just pick one up to have handy in your
room. I though maybe all the mishaps might have been an
indirect correlation to Valentine's day which was the following
day, but when we told our well-traveled cousin about our
ridiculous experience, letting her know how unprofessional we
thought they were, she sarcastically laughed saying, "I wish you
would have called me I could have told you that".
