Taco Joe's was the first restaurant I dined in the first time I
came to the Inland Empire, over 20 years ago. I don't remember what I ever ate back then, but the Queen Burrito is what they're known for. I hadn't been back since way back then, until recently. Two trips later I'm wondering what I must have been thinking. Of course I frequented the one in Colton which was a nicer place, at least back then, I can't attest to now. Both times here we went towards the end of their dinner hours and the place was amiss. Not that it would be all that much nicer otherwise. It could use some updating though. It's pretty worn and drab. There's plenty to choose from on their menu, but I haven't picked a winner yet. The complimentary chips and salsa were acceptable, but everything else was forgettable. A Shredded Beef Taco is a standard test I give every Mexican restaurant. I need to know that they make good meat and "Joe" didn't impress me. It was pretty bland. The Ground Beef & Bean Tostado was ridiculously piled high with meat and beans, overpowering the other toppings and collapsing the shell. The Enchiladas Supreme sounded the most tempting, but was terrible. The tortilla was still slightly firm and dry with so much green sauce and onions covering the plate that we had a hard time even finding the enchilada, and the filling was undetectable. I filled up on chips and their Refried Beans, which were pretty good. The King or Queen Wet Burrito has been their most popular item, I know several people who have quite an affection for her, my husband included. A hefty size burrito is filled with the meat of your choice and smothered in a tasty red sauce. I'm sure it's this item that's kept them in business all of these years. Me I'm just not a big fan of this place for any reason. I thought it interesting though, the black and white photo which hangs at the counter in their Rialto location of a man piloting a plane, who evidently stops in every single morning for a cup of coffee for years and years. Must be some good coffee anyway.
