Tune in to our Southern California radio station, 94.7 The Wave, on a
Sunday morning and you'll hear them broadcasting jazz from this Seal Beach restaurant. Between songs you hear the hustle and bustle of diners soaking in the smooth tunes while sipping on some good bubbly. Determined to go, we got a hotel room across the street and moseyed over the next morning. It wasn't quite what we'd pictured, only because the radio personalities were set up in the lounge, so the majority of the diners couldn't see them, even though they could still be hear the restaurant. Needless to say, we sat in the bar. We soon realized that the radio hosts weren't really what one comes here to see anyways, it's the buffet. Don't get me wrong, the music makes lingering here for hours over endless glasses of Domaine St. Michelle Champaign easy to do. I'm usually a bit leery of buffets, but the high price tag of $45 a person put customers on their best behavior, and the display was beautiful. My favorites were the Salami Salad, the Crab Salad, a Bowtie Chicken & Broccoli Salad, a Pesto Penne with Pinenuts & Chicken Salad, Brie with fresh raspberries, a Whole Steamed Salmon and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. There was much, much more including a number of imported cheeses, Carved Smoked Ham, Black Forest Ham and Turkey with Stuffing and a dessert table with such temptations as Tiramisu, Cheesecake, cookies and Espresso. The waitress suggested filling up on the buffet and packing up our entree to take home which really is the way to go, but we'd stayed for several hours, paced ourselves and fit it all in. Choosing an entree proved to be tough, since everything sounded appetizing. I struggled between the Chicken Florentine with creamed spinach wrapped in pastry and served with hollandaise sauce and the Crab Benedict which I decided upon was delicious with tomato slices and baby asparagus. My dad's New Zealand Lamb Chops with brown sugar cinnamon sweet potatoes turned out to be another awesome choice, try it with the mint jelly, mmmm! Brunch is served from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and kids under 12 are $10.95. Though it's a splendid way to spend a Sunday afternoon Spaghettini has live jazz seven days a week serving up Northern Italian cuisine.
