Seaport Village
San Diego, California
This is my kind of shopping. A far cry
from the mall. The key to success is
location, location, location and they've
got the location! It's a scenic walk
through shops and restaurants complete
with an ocean breeze and view. Unlike a
mall there is also scheduled events and
entertainers at Seaport Village with
everything from festivals, mimes,
magicians and bands. Others might
create balloon art, caricatures, face
painting or even henna tattoos. The
shops are unique, some are very
specialized; Whiskers is for cat lovers,
Godfrey the Magician
the Apple Box personalizes wooden toys and there's my favorites; The
Magic Shop for pranksters and Hot Licks for those who have an affinity, as
I do, for hot sauces and fiery foods. Another special attraction here is a
rare 1895 Louff carousel. Charles Louff, known for his exceptional detailed
carvings, built 17 of these machines with only 10 still in existence, another
which was built in 1906 is located at Long Beach's Shoreline Village.
Outside the Harbor House restaurant, in view of diners, is a park along the
shoreline. It's the perfect set up for those antsy teens to busy themselves
with a kite from the Kite Flight shop while parents enjoy a nice meal.
