Science Summer Camp
Redlands, California & locations nationwide
My three kids building wooden airplanes.
This is a wonderfully productive week for kids kindergarten
through 6th grade. This is where learning science is fun.
There are four different classes to choose from, with either
a half day, running from 8:30 to noon or a full day, which
runs to 3:30. They keep things rolling with projects that are
completed each day and taken home as well as a major
project, which keeps anticipation high, with kids working on
them a little each day, finally finishing and taking them
home on the last day of their week. My kids have taken
both The Space & Rocketry and Extreme Science Camps.
The weeks are fairly expensive, a full day is $225 per child,
per week, but there is a discount for a second child sign-up.
The fee includes all the supplies they will need and a
Science Summer Camp t-shirt, everything, but their lunch.
Really when you think about it the 35 hours of valuable
learning and fun (and babysitting) breaks down to around
$6.50 an hour. I know my kids are certainly smarter for it.
Who knows, this could be just the spark a kid needs to go
onto something really big!
Sign up early in Spring, cause classes fill up fast.
Classes are listed below:

X-treme Science: Make bubble wands to blow giant
bubbles, learn about taste buds with some taste
experiments, make glowing slime, a working microscope
and build a remote control kinetic robot that they take
home on the last day. In this camp, children learn about
technology, electric motors, gears, phosphorescence,
volcanology and more.

Space & Rocketry: Learn about the galaxy, even making a
model of our solar system. They make their own working
telescope and worked on their Sierra Rocket a little every
day. On the final day of camp, kids take a bus trip to the
nearest launch pad and fired their rockets into the sky! In
this camp, children learn about Newton's three laws,
aerodynamics, the constellations, the Mars rover, the life
cycle of a star and more!

Wings & Flying Things: Learn about the lives of flying
animals, such as birds, bats and insects, and with some
hands on, learn about the dynamics of hot-air balloons,
helicopters and even fly a kite, as through the week they
build a rechargeable electric airplane to take home. In this
camp, children learn about the four forces of flight,
Bernoulli's principle, kites, optics, density, simple circuits
and more!

Far Out Physics: Learn about the exiting world of
electricity, light, motion and more. Make unpopable
bubbles, metallic slime k'nex dragsters, even ice cream.
The highlight is building through the week a floating
hovercraft to take home! In this camp, children learn
about polymers, potential and kinetic energy, open and
closed circuits, angular momentum and more!

There are locations throughout California, Oregon, New
York, New Jersey and Texas
