Twelve or so years ago I had a Chile Rellano Burrito from Rosa Maria's
in San Bernardino. The tortillas were homemade, dripping with butter and the chile rellano was stuffed with chunks of tender roast pork. They were amazing, and I became an immediate fan. The original Rosa Maria's in San Bernardino opened in 1975, and for some undisclosed reason, the long time cook from there left, opening his own place, Rosie's. The menu is the same as Rosa Maria's who makes everything with pork, but Rosies has shredded and ground beef, carne asada and chicken. Rosa Maria's has three locations, in San Bernardino, Highland and Rancho Cucamonga, so does Rosie's, which are in Yucaipa, Redlands and San Bernardino. It's nothing fancy, just place your order and wait for your number to be called. It's good food. Their Chile Rellano Burrito, though, is my favorite. I buy a half dozen of them to freeze for later cravings. The Chile Rellano ala carte is also good, just needing more cheese, but the verde sauce was great! The Refried Beans are mashed and runnier, more the way I like them, while the sauce on their Cheese Enchilada is dark, rich and full of flavor. My husband loved their Carne Asada Taco, saying it was the best he'd ever had. It was a big taco for $2, with cheese, but far too much lettuce. I prefer mine more authentic with only onion and cilantro and smaller bits of meat. I liked the Shredded Beef Taco better. The Taquitos in a choice of beef or chicken were made fresh with a wonderful guacamole that was homemade and blended smooth. The Nachos were the movie theater variety with the runny cheese (kids like 'em though). Their menu consists mostly of burritos, with slight variations between them. The four main burritos are the Chile Rellano Burrito, the Chile Verde Burrito, Bean & Cheese Burritos and their most popular the Garbage Burrito. They claim to be the home of the garbage burrito, making them for over 20 years, I'll I know is that they have quite the following, cause they're always busy.
