Raging Waters
San Dimas, California
The 10-story High Extreme slide.
I first came to this waterpark in 1989. Back
then the 7-story Dropout gave me the thrill,
and wedgie, of lifetime, and I vowed never to
go on it again. My favorite attraction then was
Raging Rivers. Floating through this multi-
level attraction was such fun, getting stuck
under waterfalls, excited to try a new route
the next time. Best of all, was that it took so
long to get through this ride. We went on it
over and over again. With this park being
around so long I was pleasantly surprised to
see that it's only gotten better. Its tropical
setting is a charm and the park is kept clean
with over 36 slides and attractions to fill a day
easily and quickly. I was disappointed to see
the Raging Rivers ride was scaled down,
returning to the bottom in a matter of only
minutes. I regret not getting to experience a
couple of the rides such as the five-man
rafting adventure of Thunder Rapids and the
new Dragon's Den. This ride shoots you 45-
feet through an enclosed tube where you're
dropped into a 35-foot bowl going around and
around, finally ending safely in the pool below.
The only downfall here, is the same problem
we've encountered at other waterparks, the
unwelcome swarms of bees and Yellow
Jackets. They greet you at the ticket booth
here and only get worse as you get towards
the food concessions. Other than that it was a
wonderful day. We set up base in one of their
cabanas which doesn't offer any privacy, but
has a convenient locker for valuables and a
place to rest. Raging Waters has a nicely
stocked shop for purchasing swim wear,
sandals, hats, sunscreen and such. They keep
guests further entertained with scheduled
shows. During our visit a world champion
stunt bicyclist impressed us while the summer
of 2005 the Wallenda Family Thrill Show will be
performing insane stunts on poles 65-feet
above the concrete without the aid of any
safety devices. No outside food is allowed
inside this park, though they offer many
places to enjoy a meal or snack. We opted for
some pretty good Chinese food at the Raging
Dragon. The 2005 season starts May 7th with
the last day September 11th.
