It was quite a nice surprise to find a hotel with so much old
world charm in the party town of Newport Beach. I had searched on the internet relentlessly to find a place with ocean views, nice decor and decent prices and in the summer-time no less when the rates are at their highest, it was quite a tall order. This one looked the most promising, and it didn't disappoint. The minute the door closed behind us as we entered the hotel we realized more serene surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere. After checking in we settled in to a cozy seating area upstairs situated in front of a large window facing the ocean. A tuxedo clad waiter came from their restaurant, Renato, next door, eager to fill our requests, gin & tonics and an order of Beef Carpacio. That first evening ended dining again from the same restaurant only this time we had the best seat in the house, a bubble bath in our room with a glowing view of the ocean. We stayed in one of their best rooms, The Portofino Suite #102, with a queen size bed, full ocean view and an oversized jacuzzi. This room ran us $279. Their standard room is the Venezia Room for $169 and has a queen size bed and a shower.
