Point Loma Seafoods
San Diego, California
This is the crowd at 2:00 p.m.
New to this area, I asked the hotel clerk where we could find a place
for crab legs, without hesitation she said, "Point Loma Seafood". You
see it was our daughter's 9th birthday and that was her meal of
choice. We were certainly impressed by the looks of the seafood
cases, packed with fresh fish, smoked fish, tanks of live crabs and
lobsters and the people seem to flock here. Considering the high
energy here, Point Loma's Seafood is doing something right. I
personally didn't like the items we ordered for lunch. The White Clam
Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl
was more of a milky variety,
definitely laking in richness and flavor. The Fish-n-Chip Combo came
with a ridiculous excuse of a Crabcake, so tiny and flat, a couple of
each, breaded shrimp and cod. I also expected a better coating on
the fish. I was excited to see that they made up and sold Japanese
sushi rolls, so I ordered the Mrs. Kelly's Special Roll, which was so
greedy on filling, I really felt I could have done better buying the pre-
packaged variety from the grocery store and for much less. Finally
the reason we came in the first place, those King Crab Legs....
Admittedly they were great quality for about $23 a pound, but they
didn't offer them steamed and they don't carry butter. I give them
high marks for their seafood cases, the crabs were feisty and the
clams would take turns opening and closing. As a seafood "market"
they are all that and a bag of chips cause they definitely know their
seafood, they just don't know how to cook it.
