Phoenicia

At last, fast food that's not only good, but healthy! I am so enamored
with Mediterranean fare now and the Phoenicia does it well. Located in
a shopping center, it's nothing fancy. White walls and a few wooden
tables with chairs are accommodating, but much of their business is
carry out.

I like that they assemble everything in plain view. Behind the counter
hang layers of roasted chicken, beef and lamb which are cut off in
shreds as needed. It was the wonderfully tasty Falafel Sandwich with
crispy vegetarian patties, lettuce, tomato and tahini sauce stuffed into
a soft pita bread that left me wanting more. The Gyro Sandwich with
grilled beef and lamb and the Beef Shawarma were equally as good,
making deciding between them difficult.

Sides here can be darned near irresistible starting with the Humus.
Garbanzo beans are blended smooth with olive oil, garlic, lemon and
sesame tahini and is an excellent dip for soft pita bread. This is a huge
hit with the kids as is the Falafel a finely ground patty made with
chickpeas and other vegetable bits and only needs a sprinkle salt or a
dip in either of their sauces; the tangy tahini sauce or the strong garlic
sauce. The Potato & Pita was unusually addicting too with a pita
slathered inside with both of their sauces then set over the fire with a
couple of thin potato slices and cooked until slightly charred.

The "Plates" are a good way to sample several things and assemble
them into pita bread as you wish. On the Veggie Plate you'll find
falafel, grilled potatoes, tabouli, humus, pita, garlic and tahini sauce.
The Phoenicia Plate is a combination of all of their meats and include
tabouli, humus, falafel and pita.

Prices are more than fair here for such quality, and if food this good
helps me look younger and live longer than I am so here!
