If you are looking for an adrenaline rush this is the way to
spend a day. It's also quite the workout from the tension
your body goes through from crawling, squatting, running
and sheer fear of getting hit. I have to say I was worried
about how bad it would hurt, and I was told it does hurt. I
thought it would be one of those things where it wouldn't
be as bad as I was fearing, but it was worse! Those guns
have to be calibrated so high that the paintballs will burst
on contact. And man do they hurt! I got hit on my
mouthpiece and thought for sure my teeth were knocked
out. And a couple of guys got hit through a shirt and jacket
and it still broke the skin. That must be why we all had to
sign wavers that we wouldn't sue if our eyes got shot out or
whatever other scenarios they painted that didn't make me
feel any better before I started my 6 hour ordeal. Ken
describes it as "much more intense than when he went
parachuting". You truly do get to feel different degrees of
paranoia. I gathered all of Ken's bravest friends (note that
I went also) and donned our army gear and fought it out for
the day. We went to a place in Corona. They had 3 courses
we played on, from bridges and dried riverbeds to dark
caves with only a few rocks to squeeze behind. They
divided us into 2 teams. Each team had a flag to hide. The
object is for each team to find their opponent's flag and
bring it back to their side to win the battle. We all felt such
a sense of comradery and still to this day look back on the
day as being one that we might not do again, but one that
we were glad we did. My suggestions to you if you are
thinking this is the kind of daring sport you'd like to try,
then wear lots of clothes! I'm talking sweatshirts under a
jacket, gloves, and thermals under jeans and sweats. We
went in July and it was so hot wearing even the shirt and
jacket I wore with just a pair of jeans. So go in the winter
where you can take wearing all those layers a little more
comfortably. If you only have a friend or two, then they
can pair you up with other teams already playing or your
team can play against others (I personally wouldn't play
with someone who does this often you wouldn't stand a
chance). I probably would do it again, reluctantly, but
really if you're the daring sort you gotta try it!

Paintball
Here is an example of the
injuries we incurred, ouch!
They calibrate the rifles to make
sure the paintball goes fast enough
to break on impact.

This is the last of three courses we played.
