It began as a two-story adobe guest
house built 1876. In 1902 Frank Miller
began expanding and took 30 years to
complete. Duane Roberts played here as
a child, exploring it's catacombs while his
parents entertained for business. In
December of 1992 he bought it for $15.6
million. It encompasses 32,000 square
feet and occupies an entire city block and
after a $55 million dollars in renovations
The Mission Inn is truly magnificent! It
has two lounges and 4 restaurants on the
premises, including the Four-Diamond
rated Duane's Prime Steaks & Seafood,
the Mission Inn Restaurant with it's awe
inspiring patio, Mission Inn Coffee
Company serving up espressos and
sandwiches and Mr. Robert's latest
addition, Las Campanas & Cantina which
opened May 4th of this year. There are
235 guest rooms, 35 suites, two wedding
chapels and an Olympic size swimming
pool with Jacuzzi. The Mission Inn has
certainly attracted it's share of high
profile personalities with George W. Bush
being the most recent. Richard Nixon
married Pat in 1940 in what is now the
Presidential Lounge and Ronald Reagan
honeymooned with Nancy here.
Theodore Roosevelt replanted a navel
orange tree in the Court of Birds while
visiting the property in 1903. A total of 5
presidents have stayed here as well as
many celebrities including Muhammad
Ali, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis,
Albert Einstein, Cary Grant, Judy Garland,
Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford, Chuck
Norris, Tom Hanks and Leonardo Di
Caprio to name a few. Take the 75-
minute Mission Inn Tour for more
interesting facts.
