Farmer's Market/Market Night
Redlands, California & Multiple Locations
Some of my fondest memories of living
here in Redlands are of walking to town
for Market Night on a warm summer's
evening, with my mental list of all the
places I want to be sure to visit. I would
skimp on lunch just so I'd be good and
hungry enough to fit in at least a couple
of carne asada tacos and a bag of freshly
made mini-donuts, too hot to eat right
away and sprinkled with gobs of
cinnamon sugar. Then hopefully I'd still
have enough room left for something new
to try. There was the booth that sold
dates, several varieties even. There was
the one booth that sold the sweetest Red
Flame Grapes that are beyond compare,
and the toughest task was trying to
decide who had the best strawberries for
the best price. Besides the tempting
smells all around I think I liked best the
sounds of music coming from the various
musicians on different street corners.
Market Night is the one night a week that
the city blocks off their main street to
traffic, and locals and out-of-towners
come out to sell their fresh produce and
specialty items. Over the last 15 years
that I've been going to our Redland's
Market Night, many vendors have come
and gone and many have been here
nearly all 15 years. In any case, there
are definitely some places that make the
Thursday night trip worthwhile. Be sure
and skip dinner at home, eating here is
half the fun!
