This place looks sparkling new, inside and out. Unlike others I've been to,
this place has a modern look, with good use of earth tones, brick walls, tiled
ceiling and natural wood floors. Large black and white maritime photos and
stuffed marlin and swordfish puts seafood on their patrons minds. A
hundred conversations fill the air during the lunch and dinner hours, hardly
a place to relax really, unless you order up a Blue Marlin Martini, with Blue
Curacao and Blue Sapphire Gin, which helps to clear the head. At this point,
passing plates on their way to other tables had mashed potatoes perfectly
placed upon them with an ice cream scoop. This brought my expectations
back down to earth, and reminded me that this is a chain restaurant. So I
sipped my martini placed an order, hoping for the best and enjoyed a
satisfying basket of warm sourdough bread, which tamed our hunger. The
Crab Wontons were tasty stuffed with crab and served with a sweet and
sour sauce. The Sweet & Spicy Calamari was buttermilk battered, golden
fried rings and bodies sprinkled with fresh cilantro and served with the
same sauce. The Ceviche Tostada, an appetizer for one was light and
flavorful with tender pieces of shark mixed with a fresh salsa. So far a good
enough start, but not overly impressive. With three appetizers and two
martinis under our belts we were starting to feel that we'd be sending
ourselves home for a nap if we went for an entree, but that Coconut Shrimp
rolled in crushed macadamia nuts and fried golden to dip in a pina colada
sauce sounded too good to pass up. So we ordered it ala carte, even
though we were warned it would only save us a buck. It was pretty
yummy! At the end of the first visit I wasn't necessarily eager to come
back, but my husband was pleased since his experiences at other locations
in the past were less than impressive. On the second trip I ordered their
Onion Straws which were so thin and oily that I didn't get to taste much of
the onion, but the Chipotle Aioli made a delicious dipping sauce. Entrees
come with soup or salad, and being that I've had better New England Clam
Chowder
, I preferred the salad, which wasn't thrilling in itself, but I liked the
Honey Mustard Vinaigrette and the chunky Bleu Cheese Dressings, both are
made fresh from scratch on the premises. On this trip I decided to try a
couple of entrees. The Red Snapper was fresh and tender, served with
tartar sauce, steamed broccoli and carrots, and a choice of sides, one of
which was their Signature Cheesy Potatoes, ah!....those perfectly shaped
potatoes! They need to take their name off of these, they were too dry to
be enjoyable. Now the Seared Rare Ahi was good, Cajun dusted and served
with a papaya relish, and though it was a prime cut, I thought it was
overpriced at $18.95. At the end of this second trip I still didn't feel
impressed. The food reminds me of Red Lobster's fare, without the
delicious Cheddar Bay Biscuits. Not that the food is bad by any means, I
just don't know what I'd be anxious to return here for. I'd also think twice
about having a special occasion here since they have a policy of no
cameras allowed. It seems they are concerned about someone using the
photos to replicate their restaurant's design. Oh this place bugs me!
P.S... Just wanted to say "hello" to their sweet waitress Crystal, she took
good care of us!
