Lytle Creek
San Bernardino, California
The summers seem to be getting hotter and hotter
with record breaking temperatures. It's times like
these I wish we had a pool. The beaches aren't
much of an option any more with contaminated
water and hours of traffic. So this summer we
ventured out to find a place to cool off and play and
Lytle Creek is what we found.

The scenery was a pleasant change from the city,
and the water flowing from the mountains fresh,
unlike many of our lakes nowadays. At the bridge
people congregate. We parked our car and stayed
on the north side of the bridge close to our car.
Those on the south side parked along the highway.
We didn't know it until our kids took their rafts
exploring under the bridge that there was a small
waterfall at the other side. By the time they figured
it out it was too late the current forced them over.
It was a dangerous little fall with two giant rocks to
narrowly make it between. Exhilarated they
admitted it was fun, but they'd never want to do it
again. Though nobody else seemed to want to take
the plunge either they certainly made use of the fall
with kids and adults diving and doing flips into the
gushing water.

When the shade took over we got in our car and
drove up the creek where it wasn't so close to the
hills and bought ourselves another hour of sunshine
in a more secluded spot.

A day here isn't free, nothing is anymore, but $5 per
car isn't bad. Day passes are sold at the Valero Gas
Station just as you exit the 15 freeway on Sierra,
then head north to the creek, you can't miss it.
Even multiple passes can be purchased, just
Lytle Creek to the north.

the bridge.
People doing tricks into
the water fall
scratch off the day you are using it for and put it in your wind shield. If you decide
to take your chances it's a $150 fix it ticket.

Bees can be a nuisance at the bridge because of trash, but further up the stream
there's no problem. It was fun daming up our own pools and just being around
water without all the effort it takes to get there. It's was a great find and you
can't beat the deal.
