Little Fisherman Seafood
Little Fisherman Seafood, opened late in the 1990's. It was an eye
opener for me. My lifetime aversion to fish was about to give way to a
new adventure that would become a near obsession when I
discovered this place. The owner, Mike, greeted me behind his
refrigerator case stocked with the day's catch. After stating my
limitations, explaining I don't care for the "fishy" taste of seafood he
pulled out a milky white fillet, urging me to smell it. To my surprise, it
had no smell, with even some selections, such as the shrimp and
scallops possessing a hint of sweetness. He further enlightened me,
saying that the fishy smell sets in as fish gets old, that fresh fish
should never smell or taste fishy. He insures freshness by personally
selecting his fish fresh off the boats every morning as the sun comes
up. Fish left at the end of the day make is used to make Cioppini.
Armed with this new information and aware how healthy fish is I was
willing to give seafood another try, purchasing a couple fillets to take
home. Since then I've never looked back, and though seafood is my
favorite meat now, I'll never get it from the grocery store, it's just too
scary. It can sometimes be inconvenient with limited choices if you
don't call your order in ahead, but we are all at his mercy. Pick
anything from the refrigerator case and they'll grill , saute or bread it.
Mussels, clams, crab legs and lobster are steamed and occasionally
during the summer months sushi rolls are assembled. I like the Cod
Fish & Chips
served with a delicious tartar sauce, as well as the Grilled
Shrimp
which is so sweet, loaded with fresh garlic and served with a
wonderfully sweet cocktail sauce with an apparent amount of
horseradish. All meals some with a salad, addicting thick cut fries and
coleslaw, but rice can be substituted. The Little Fisherman moved in
2004 to a much larger location. There's plenty more seating inside
with a pool table and live music on the weekends as well as a Bocci
Ball court and a few tables to dine at outside. I'm so leery nowadays
to buy meat, not knowing where it's comes from or how it's been
stored. I feel fortunate to have fish this fresh available to me cause
you wont find it any fresher short of catching it yourself.
