Nestled in a remote spot in Carlsbad is
a slower paced amusement park, free
from long lines and obnoxious
teenagers. It's a wonderful place for
kids under 12 and parents who like to
play with their kids. Everything is
interactive. Instead of sitting there
taking a ride, the kids have to do things
to make the rides work. They have
cars and boats for the kids to drive,
without tracks to keep them on. It can
get a little crazy, but it was real
driving! Here's a little tip for you, at
the end of the Dragon Roller Coaster
the cameras go off and your
photograph is displayed instantly for
everyone to see. So powder up and
look cool through the ride. The photos
are $7.95 each and done very quickly,
they also take pictures on the Technic
Coaster. They had a town made of
playhouses, water play areas and neat
shows. We saw the "firehouse show"
which was funny and we've all been
singing the song since, "You put the
wet stuff on the hot stuff....." On a
couple of the water rides like the jet
skis, which again the kids get to drive,
the spectators can stand on the
bridges, armed with buttons that make
water bombs go off and get the riders
wet! But the thing that was most
impressive to me was what they built
with Legos! It was so amazing! When
you go you can't help, but marvel at
the details. They recreated things like
Mount Rushmore, New York City
Coastline, Darth Vader, elephants,
giraffes you name it. Even the
Egyptian writings on the walls in the
Adventurers Club were Legos! They
used 30 million legos to build
everything you see in the park with 20
million legos into Miniland alone! We
enjoyed eating at the Knights Table
BBQ where the kids meals consist of
barbecue spareribs (these were
yummy!), chicken strips or a hot dog.
It also included chips, cookies and a
drink with a take-home souvenir cup
for under $6. Before leaving the Castle
Hill be sure and treat yourself to some
Granny Smith's Apple Cinnamon Fries
with Vanilla Cream dipping sauce.
Food is expensive. But we were told
you can pack your own and take it in.
Also if you use your AAA card you not
only get a 10% discount off total
admission, but you get a second day
pass good for 60 days free! You have
to ask for it though. Admission is $39
for adults, $33 for children. We went
on a Sunday and there wasn't much
waiting in lines. The park opened at
10am and closed at 6pm. My 6 and 10
year olds like Legoland better than
Disneyland. You might even think
about having your child's next birthday
party here ask about their birthday
packages.

Legoland is located on Canon Road exit
off Interstate 5.
