Our trip here held so much promise. The place is beautiful. My
recollection of "Gone With The Wind" is vague, but I couldn't help, but imagine life in the South when times were good here. The entrance is wide and seating in this immediate area has a garden feel with a two story ceiling. Away from immediate view on this first story is a dramatic red room with a vaulted ceiling, but far too many tables. The competition of too many conversations was overwhelming in this room. We chose to sit instead on the upstairs balcony which stretched across the face of the restaurant. It glowed with the colors of little lights which Disney uses generously to create his magic. Things couldn't be better and a glimpse of the menu prices led me to believe this was going to be a fantastic experience. Unfortunately the food missed the mark starting with our drinks. The Louisiana Lemonade, Mardi Gras Punch and a Lemon Drop were so weak. We started with an order of the Shrimp Remoulade & Fried Green Tomatoes. The tomatoes were extremely tough, without much flavor and the breading oddly thick for tomatoes and was topped with an odd tasting shrimp, nah! The Sweet Potato Soup with smoked bacon was good, but not a "wow", especially for the build up the waiter gave it. The Roasted Chicken Rosemary had a wonderfully flavored au jus and Garlic Creamed Potatoes, but the chicken was dry and in need of the sauce. Blue Crab Meat Topped Blackened Salmon was a joke with such a slight sprinkling of crab that I thought it was bread crumbs or Parmesan and looked further for the crab. It was topped with a brown colored "Green Onion Herb Vinaigrette" that further disappointed and for a ridiculous $21.75!? Keep in mind these entrees do not come with soup or salad, just bread. To their credit the Oyster Shooters for $1.50 each, served in a shot glass with cocktail sauce and a slice of lemon were amazing. These were so fresh and melt-in-the-mouth tender, we had to order more. The Double Chocolate Bread Pudding with white and dark chocolate ganache was a satisfying ending to this cold winter meal. It's not like this place is hurting for business, the place is packed. I just wasn't happy paying such extreme prices for such average fare. I'd stop in here again to enjoy the ambiance, but next time I'd order a Vodka Martini and fill up on those oysters!
