Built in the early
1900, the Edgewater
Beachfront Hotel has
been family owned
since 1978. Besides
it's ideal location,
right off the pier and
steps away from the
beach it was more
affordable than most
of the others. Our
two bedroom August
rate was $170 per
night. This included
continental breakfast
every morning from
7:00 to 10:00 a.m.,
with muffins, pastries
and bagels, fruit,
juice and coffee as
well as daily
housekeeping
service. The staff
was exceptionally
accommodating;
when we were late,
Kathy at the front
desk made worried
phone calls hoping we
were alright, Bob the
maintenance man
offered to wash our
sandy beach towels
and swimsuits, and
upon check-out
Marcie, the owner,
offered to store our
luggage and take us
to the Catalina
Express terminal if
we needed it. The
rooms were modest,
comfortable and
clean, while the
oceanfront suites
were the most
coveted. Both have
15-foot windows
overlooking Avalon
Bay. Considering we
had three kids with
us, our four night
stay was more than we could have imagined, with the El Galleon
restaurant right next door, an ice cream shop two doors in the
other direction and the beach just steps away. This family
vacation is going to be hard to top!
