The Crookedest Street
in the world

There are some wonderful and wacky places to
see, but "The Crookedest Street In The World"? I
couldn't imagine, and had to see it. It was built in
the mid-1920's as a way of dealing with the forty
degree slope that would have surely been the
demise of many, especially back when brakes
weren't what they are now. Also referred to as
"Snake Alley" it's eight sharp turns zig-zag down a
block of Lombard Street between Leavenworth
and Hyde. At the top of the street, otherwise
known as "Russian Hill", is a picturesque view of
the city which continues through the red
cobblestone street past stately townhouses and
breathtaking gardens, when they're in bloom.
Unfortunately they weren't when we came, but it
was still lovely. This little street gets so much
attention with continual traffic, and with no reason
of convenience, it's pretty much all tourists, and
worth going out of the way for.
