Chateau Chang
Victorville, California
French Continental cuisine with an Asian flare. That's how Ava,
their waitress of 7 years describes their diverse menu. She is
quite the asset to Chateau Chang, excited about their food and
able to describe in detail how every dish is prepared. She's tried
them all and she'll tell it like it is. Do as she says and you wont
get hurt! "Don't order the Shrimp Tempura with Vegetables and
you'll be fine", she says. At first when you read through the menu
the place seems more like a steak and seafood restaurant,
serving Surf & Turf and various cuts of beef and fish. Then there
are the surprising appearances of Chicken Cordon Bleu, Quail, and
Frog Legs as well as Orange Peel Beef, Mongolian Beef and
Sizzling Rice Soup. We first came here two years ago and so
enjoyed the food that we had to come back. Though it's location
doesn't paint a picture of promise, in a strip center with
businesses of function a few doors away, inside is dimly lit with
booths, scattered tables and a relaxing tone. With so much to
choose from, we all thought long and hard about our selections.
My brother and his wife chose the Porterhouse Steak, my husband
the Pan Fried Trout almondine style, combining it with the New
York Steak
and I ordered the Sesame Chicken. The bite-size
pieces of chicken were breaded, golden fried and coated in a
sweet and tangy glaze then sprinkled generously with sesame
seeds. Though everyone was happy with their meals and thought
them worthy enough to take home leftovers, they all made sure I
didn't have to bother with a to-go box, finishing every bit of my
meal. The Sesame Chicken was a hit! That's all right, I was
consoled with the knowledge that I was taking home three orders
of Shomei to enjoy later. The Shomei, wontons wrapped around
ground filet mignon, steamed and served with an amazing soy
based sauce is always a thrill. It was the hit our first time here
and the reason we've all been coming back. The Mojave Chicken
Wings
another consideration, fried, glazed in a teriyaki sauce and
topped with an awesome blend of bits of garlic, cilantro and green
onion. The same combination is offered on the Cod Special with
the cod cut into pieces and breaded first, which I haven't tried
yet, but is next on my wish list. The meals all come with great
grilled garlic bread, a tossed salad, fruit and a choice of lo-mein
noodles and fried rice or baked potato. The food is generous and
the prices are a bargain with the Shomei amazingly only $6.95
while the dinners are anywhere from $16.95 for my Sesame
Chicken to $35 for King Crab Legs. I need an encore!
