I first came here fourteen years ago and can you believe that up
until this past year I have ordered the same thing every time. It's a small stand with only outdoor seating. Mexican tunes waft about while misters keep customers cool in the hot summer months. Inside, a pot of bubbling beans is the backdrop to a woman stacking freshly made flour tortillas the size of large pizzas. Everything is made fresh here without the use of animal fat, and though I appreciate the health benefits, I couldn't taste the difference. This is one of those unsuspecting places that really knows what they're doing.
Generous with their meats, carnivores can get their fill here.
Their award winning Pork Chile Verde Burrito is packed with huge chunks of tender roast pork. I've been stuck on their Chicken Chimichunga, made with freshly roasted chicken and melted cheddar wrapped in a flour tortilla, deep fried and topped with sour cream. It sound simple, but it's the best chimichunga I've had yet, so flavorful, and because there isn't anything spicy, it's perfect for kids. This dish pairs well with their killer hot sauce. Grapefruitade made fresh daily is so quenching, sweet with a hint of salt. Their Chicken or Beef Taquitos are one the best I've tasted, and the Guacamole they pair this with is so fresh with big chunks of avocado. The Fish Taco wasn't the usual, instead the fish was grilled and tossed in a spicy chile sauce. The Carne Asada Taco had great meat with wonderful flavor.
There is a down side here. The outdoor seating can be a blessing
or curse. The lack of outdoor ceiling fans not only enables temperatures to soar, but allows an menacing amount of flies to torture their customers. The cooler months are more tolerable even if it does get chilly. None of this has ever kept us from their food though. I'm a firm believer that the trick to finding good food is to follow the crowds, cause the locals know, and this place is always busy. I expect they'll be around for a very long time.
