Castlewood Cottages
Big Bear Lake, California
The view in the evening
looking up into the bedroom.
This place is unbelievable. It now ranks as our #1 favorite place to stay
so far. The room was called "The Enchanted Forest" and it sounded neat,
a forest built indoors, sleeping up in the trees. But then again, I had my
doubts considering that most of the theme rooms I've seen have been
pretty cheesy, and then the fact that it is located in Big Bear where there
isn't much money going into updating the town, I was nervous. I was
hopeful too because this place is booked up at least 6 months in advance
for a weekend stay. When we pulled up to the place and it looked so tiny!
It didn't look good. Well they say good things come in small packages, we
were thrilled! The forest floor not only had a babbling brook which we left
on our entire stay (and boy did it put me to sleep at night), but there was
another small water fall that filled up the jacuzzi. While in the jacuzzi you
can watch the crackling flames of the fireplace. There was also a waist-
high house on the forest floor for the gnomes that were hidden, along with
the rabbits, squirrels and fairies. The loft had white lights and large
butterflies in the trees and glow in the dark stars on the ceiling to gaze at
at night. They even had fairy music you could play and a fairy costume to
wear, complete with wings. The walls were painted with a scenic forest
and fairies wings were painted with glitter. Usually when we go on a trip
we are anxious to get out to find some adventure, but we couldn't wait to
get back to "our treehouse". It was so relaxing and magical that our
whole stay we kept marveling at the details we were continually
discovering. It was very romantic and really made us forget the world.
We can't wait to come back! I haven't looked at the other rooms in
person, but from the pictures, I didn't think they looked as nice. This
room was one of the latest to be built and it looked like they put a lot of
money into it. The last room built was "The Castle Garden" which sounds
cool and we'll be checking out next. The room we stayed in, "The
Enchanted Forest", was a bit pricey, $149 to $189 per night, but worth it!

This is our favorite
part, the jacuzzi.
Wait till you see it!
They even set a place
on the table for fairies
that might show up.
We loved our bed in
the trees, oh! but that forest floor!
