The Captain's Table has nearly all the makings to make a name for itself out
here in Havasu, all but one that is. Firstly their location can hardly be beat,
right on the lake. They've built a new outdoor bar in 2003, the Naked Turtle
which really gets hopping, as well as the original bar located inside right off
the restaurant, and has additional outdoor seating. The restaurant itself
lends a vacation feel with large square windows modeled after the big
vacation oceanliner with comfortable booths and many tables with chairs.
The menu looked promising offering fancy fare with prices to back them up,
but the final product never measured up to expectations. They really need a
new cook here. The first appetizer we ordered, the Oysters On The Half Shell
had such a strong odor when it arrived at our table, there was no way I was
having anything to do with it. My husband ate one and sent the whole thing
back. It was definitely not fresh, shame, shame! The Steamed Clams were
not only chewy, but obnoxiously salty. The Big Three appetizer sampler had
great fresh thick cut Onion Rings and Fried Zucchini, but the tempura coating
came out soft, but the marinara sauce served with the Mozzarella Sticks had
a deep roasted tomato flavor that was fantastic. The Baby Spring Salad with
Scallops
I chose topped with their Raspberry Vinaigrette. The scallops were
wonderful, but with only three, they went quick, leaving me with a bunch of
salad and nothing else to hold my interest. The Clam Chowder was too thick
and lacking cream, and with one taste none of us wanted anymore. The
Coconut Shrimp was a joke with five small shrimps in an over fried breading
served with a deeply colored honey mustard sauce for a ridiculous $16.75!
The Halibut with Dill Cream Sauce had moist fresh fish, but the dill sauce was
it's downfall. It was thick and strong with dry dill. The Cheeseburger was the
best entree of our two trips here. Though the bun was a bit thick the burger
had good flavor. Nearing the end of our second night here a man at the front
desk stepped away from the rest of his party to stop me for my opinion on
the place. Sensing the implications of my hesitation he pleaded, asking me
again for an honest opinion, saying they'd driven 200 miles and so longed for
a nice dinner. Oh all right! I cannot tell a lie. I said the place was nice, but
the food wasn't the best and it was pricey at that. So there.
