Brunch at
The Fisherman's
San Clemente, California
Brunch here turned out to be quite the disappointment one
Sunday morning. It looked promising, located on the San
Clemente Pier, not to mention it was voted "Best Seafood in San
Clemente", by a local website. Though there seemed to be lots of
indoor and outdoor seating, we still had an hour wait. Once
seated, we made haste ordering, our good moods were finally
succumbing to hunger. Unbelievably, we waited another hour
before our food arrived at the table. Several baskets of muffins
and sourdough bread were delivered throughout our wait, to hold
us at bay, but when our finally came, were full of breads. To
make matters worse, several of our meals came out cold. I sent
my Seafood Boat back, it was hardly warm, and though it
sounded wonderful "A light and delicate pastry shell filled with an
assortment of fresh seafood topped with melted jack and
cheddar cheese" it turned out to be a bowl of mush. Flavorless
crab, shrimp and white fish were overpowered by heavy jack and
cheddar cheeses, and the croissant it was baked on was mushy
and barely detectable, hardly the "delicate pastry" they
described. I abandoned it after a couple of bites, turning my
attention, instead to the Crab Cocktail which was much more
enjoyable. Another member of our party took one bite of the Fish
Tacos
and was outwardly upset. It was cold and soggy, and he
refused to eat it. When the waiter took his untouched plate he
never bothered to inquire as to why it hadn't been touched.
When I complained about my Seafood Boat they did bring back a
hot one, which another 15 minutes to get back. By then I'd eaten
too many muffins and wasn't hungry anymore. When they took
my plate it has hardly been touched either. I felt the waiter
should have been more observant, and done something
monetary to compensate for such a miserable experience. The
Fish & Chips were decent, but the mounds and mounds of steak
fries were dry. Ironically, the complimentary cranberry, banana
nut and blueberry muffins, we'd all had more than our share of,
was the biggest hit. I have to say, I'd be pretty hard pressed to
come back here for a meal, maybe a drink and the crab cocktail,
but not a meal.
