I loved coming here almost 20 years ago.
It is still around after all these years and
our kids love it too. It's a very pleasant
place to spend some family time. Don't
miss a ride on the Auto Ferry, which
crosses the bay to Balboa Island, it's
something different. It's only $1.50 a car,
sixty cents for adults and thirty cents for
children under 12. On the boardwalk you'll
find two video arcades, carnival rides,
shopping and occassional wildlife. We were
tickled to see large seals hanging out on
the gas dock. We were told though by the
local law enforcement that it is prohibited
to feed them because they have been
known to jump up on the docks and knock
people over. Across the street we've
enjoyed a meal or two at the Shore House.
This place has one of the most extensive
menus that I have ever seen. I don't know
how they do it, and so inexpensively!
There's bound to be something for
everyone. At dark the five of us decided to
take a walk on the beach, taking the mini
flashlights they'd won at the arcade. My
goodness, there is all kinds of stuff that the
crowds leave behind at the end of the day.
We found beach toys, clothing and
seashells. On a weeknight there wasn't
any wait for the rides, but I think I would
have preferred the hustle and bustle of a
Friday or Saturday night.
