Austria Hof Lodge

During Mammoth's snow season finding a
room to accommodate a family can be quite
the challenge. We couldn't have gotten
luckier though finding the Austria Hof Lodge.
Not only did we get their biggest room which
sleeps seven, but it's directly adjacent to the
ski slopes at Canyon Lodge.

The first floor of the main lodge is Austria Hof
Restaurant and Cellar Bar while rooms are
located on the second and third floors. We
checked in at a small window on the second
floor where their staff made us feel welcome.
Continental breakfast is served here from
8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every morning. Our
room which accommodates 7 was located
across the road at the St. Anton where condos
are privately owned and the Austria Hof Lodge
is working on acquiring more than the one
room they own. The main lodge has rooms
which sleep two and four, but an extra
mattress can be brought in for a $20 per night
fee for parties of five.

Our condo #65 at the St. Anton was spacious
and updated with a tiled entry, granite and
Corian counters throughout and a fireplace.
Though it's a one bedroom there was also a
pull-out sofa for two and a bunk bed against
the wall next to the dining table which also
had a pull out trundle. They have free high
speed Internet access and parking for the
condo was most convenient in the
underground parking without a chance of
getting snowed in.

Our stay in March was cold and stormy and
the snow had reached the roof top of our
second story building. A soak in the hot tub
located on the second story balcony of the
main lodge boasted amazing views of the
slopes and was a shame to pass up, but the

trek back to our condo wet and cold seemed intolerable. There was
also a pool and spa at the St. Anton. The rates fluctuate with our
condo #65 $215 on weekdays and $250 on Friday and Saturday
nights. Rooms in the main lodge run between $140 and $180 during
that month.

It was nice having this much living space and the location couldn't be
better. Our stay at the Austria Hof Lodge turned out to be most
memorable.
