Afternoon Tea at

Yucaipa, California
Afternoon tea here was a thoroughly impressive experience.
From the moment you walk in the door, one can't help, but
marvel at the work that was put into decorating this place.
It's fantastical, with giant flowers and butterflies and goodies
to buy tucked in everywhere you look. It is a perfect place to
savor the joys of afternoon tea. But unlike the Duchess of
Bedford, who started this beloved past-time to tide herself
over between meals, tea-time here is more than a meal in
itself, so come plenty hungry! The table was set with tea
service and pretty tea cups. There was a three-tiered server
filled with goodies. The bottom two tiers were filled with fresh
baked cookies, seven varieties! I so loved the rolled lace
cookies filled with a brown sugar flavored whipped cream that
was then dipped in dark chocolate, there were Mexican
wedding cakes, lemon bars, shortbreads and such. On the top
tier sat a wonderful orange bundt cake, a whole one, filled with
candied orange peel and cream cheese and loads of frosting
with abundance pooled on a lace doily. There was also a
goblet mounded high with Devonshire cream which
complimented the warm scones that were brought out on a
separate plate. A pot of Earl Grey Tea with an offering of
lemon slices, cream and sugar cubes suit me fine, while my
ten year old son raved about the his fruited raspberry tea,
then lovely plates of tea sandwiches were served to each of
us. They were as impressive in taste as presentation. One
sandwich was served open-faced on butterfly shaped white
bread that was topped with egg salad and a mango pineapple
marmalade, another was crustless rounds of bread heaped
with a curried chicken salad with edges rolled in toasted sliced
almonds, cucumber slices were tucked inside and on top of
rounds of white bread spread with a bit of cream cheese and
still there was a another made with a dense fruit nut bread
with cream cheese and cranberry filling. Oh we were so
stuffed! The $18.95 price tag might sound high, but with tax
and gratuity included and all the leftovers packed up for you to
take home, you can't image the amount of food you get. I
highly recommend coming here for the afternoon tea with
mom, grandma or anyone who enjoys this kind of spoiling.
They offer gift certificates, which I bought, it will make a
perfect gift. A one week advance reservation is required.
